St. Matthew Society Networking Event Held
Cathedral Prep’s Alumni Committee held it’s first (hopefully with many more to follow) St. Matthew Society dinner and networking event at Cathedral Prep on February 28, 2008. The St. Matthew committee is currently made up of several Alumni who are in employed in financial service industries. The dinner consisted of three themes. Firstly, to invite Alumni back to the Prep to reconnect with the school and rekindle the great experiences of our High School days. Secondly, to help us network with each other and share any job opportunities or just to discuss our career experiences. Thirdly, to help Cathedral financially and resourcefully by encouraging those who attended to come back, invite other classmates or friends and help contribute in any way possible.
The first event was an informal dinner that first started with a Mass in the Prep’s chapel. It was then followed by a buffet dinner prepared by Billy Caruana ‘72 that consisted of baked sea bass, pasta with sausage and meatballs or clams, mussels and shrimp. There were also pork spare ribs, broccoli, stuffed mushrooms and several other main courses and deserts.
During the eating fest, Monsignor Joseph Calise ‘72 the current Rector/Principal, discussed the state of the Prep and explained how well it is progressing and stressed how our involvement is so important to the school finances and the students. Father John Cush ‘91 a current faculty member, spoke about up coming events and encouraged us all to participate. Mr. Ken Engesser ’74, Treasurer of the Executive Alumni Board, discussed the finances of the Alumni Association and explained how funds raised through out the year are appropriated back to the School. I also spoke and discussed the mission of the committee and encouraged those in attendance to keep the mission of Cathedral alive and asked them to get involved in any way possible. I invited them to keep coming back and to rekindle the experiences they had as students and allow the current and future students to experience the same.
The St. Matthew Society can let this happen. It will grow in numbers and those numbers will translate into several good things. We will announce the next dinner and encourage all to reconnect, network and help the cause of the Prep.
You are all in my prayers and all the prayers of the St. Matthew Society members and the students of the Prep.
God Bless,
Jerry Magaldi ‘74
